Pollinator Season

Pollinator Season - Bee on Purple Coneflower

They're all out! Bees, butterflies, and even wasps and flies all do their part to help pollinate our blooms and yours, and we welcome their involvement in making our ecosystem thrive. There are things you can do at home to help our pollinators thrive. For instance, if you find you have aphids, consider waiting to reach for the bug killer if possible. Instead, consider visiting your local garden center and picking up some native ladybugs! Not only will they eat all your aphids, but they will then pollinate your Garden all season!

Historic Donation

Douglas Chandor's hand-carved tobacco pipe
Douglas Chandor with his hand-carved tobacco pipe

A piece of history came home this May, and we couldn't be more excited! On behalf of her parents, Jerrye and Neal McDonald, Helen Sink donated Douglas Chandor's hand-carved tobacco pipe back to the Gardens. Douglas was rarely ever seen without his pipe, almost as if it were an extension of him. Jerrye and Neal purchased his pipe at the estate sale in the early '80s and have now donated it back to the Garden just today! We are beyond grateful for their generosity and are elated and thankful to have a small piece come home to stay.

Asiatic Lilies (Lilium asiatica)
Our Asiatic Lilies are starting to bloom, and words can't describe how large and vibrant these are. Each bloom is the size of a dinner plate and reaches heights between 2 and 4 feet! They will be in bloom for the next week or so, so don't miss your opportunity to see these bright and vibrant specimens!

Parting Shot

Parting Shot - Pentas

It seems fitting that as our warm summer is becoming increasingly imminent that our blooms are becoming richer and warmer themselves. These Pentas group together to make a crimson sea of flowers near the Courtyard entrance as if to give a warm welcome to all who enter. The Gardens are home to many flora and fauna, a rich history, and a sense of enchantment. Won't you come to visit?
