Secrets from the Garden

Chandor Gardens Newsletter - October 2015

Season of Renewal

Here in Texas, Autumn is as much a season of renewal as Spring. Cooler temperatures soothe the earth, as well as those who live upon it. Come celebrate the season with us here at Chandor Gardens; first with Autumn Art Walk (October 18), then with our family-friendly Ghouls in the Garden (October 25). Or, perhaps for no reason at all, come take a garden stroll... just for the health of it!

See you in the Garden,
The Chandor Gardens Staff

A Morning Stroll Around the Garden

Above: Under the iconic Cedar Elm tree, morning light begins to fill the Grey Garden.

Autumn brings new colors to the garden, from the re-bloom of Encore® Azaleas and delicate begonias (above) to Turk's Cap (below, with its edible "apple" fruit) and Goldenrod. Despite a persistent myth to the contrary, Goldenrod does NOT cause your fall allergies.

Above: Incredibly fragrant Hardy Ginger (Hedychium) flowers fill the air with fragrance at the Labyrinth. Below, cheery yellow Zexmenia flowers greet the morning while crimson seeds hang on delicate threads from a Magnolia cone.

Above: Delicate, finger-like leaves of Black Bamboo play a melody on sunlight while sunlight pierces the foliar sphere of a soaring Yucca rostrata. Below: Ivory stars of American Crinum emerge from the edge of the Bridge Pond while 'Panama Red' Hibiscus rises from its iron urn.

Parting Shot

You never know who you'll encounter on a morning stroll through the garden. This praying mantid saw me before I saw him!
