Secrets from the Garden
Chandor Gardens Newsletter - May 2019
April was lovely in the gardens, and we are confident that May will be as well! While we had the misfortune of having to cancel our Spring Fling due to inclement weather, we went on to have a gorgeous month in which we saw beautiful blossoms and even lovelier brides.
We were honored to host Cliburn in the Community with renowned pianist Leonardo Pierdomenico! Those tickets were certainly snagged quickly but fret not because we have more events like this in the works. To ensure you stay up to date on events and happenings in the Garden, follow us on Facebook and Instagram.
May is one of the best months in the Gardens, so make sure to come out and see us soon, because it won't be long until summer heat is on our doorstep. See you in the garden, The Chandor Gardens Staff

Chandor Gardens Foundation Partners with The Cliburn
|
|
|
The Chandor Gardens Foundation partnered with the Cliburn to bring Italian pianist, Leonardo Pierdomenico (pictured above), to Chandor Gardens Tuesday evening, April 30th. Even the threat of thunderstorms and tornadoes didn't prevent people from attending the very first Cliburn concert to be held in Parker County!
The evening was such a success that we have plans to make this an annual spring event.

The Foundation will again be partnering with the Cliburn to host two summer children's programs. These interactive, free programs are typically brought to public schools and presented to children in 2nd through 4th grades. This will be the first time the Cliburn has presented the programs in the summer and a wonderful opportunity to enrich the lives of children in our community by giving them an appreciation of classical music that will last a lifetime!
The classes will be held on Saturday, July 20th and on Saturday, August 10th at 11a.m. Due to limited space, reservations will be required. Please call 817-613-1700 for more information. To see an example of the Cliburn in the Classroom program, visit the Education page at Cliburn.org.

How lush is this waterfall? This is one of our favorite spots in the garden, and one of the sweetest. It was always Douglas Chandor's greatest aspiration to have a true waterfall, and he sadly never had the chance to finish it before his death. It was half finished and remained that way for many years as the property sat empty following his and Ina's deaths. The Bradfords bought the property in the 90's and worked diligently to restore it to his vision, and they knew something so special needed to be completed in Douglas's honor. So, thanks to the hard work of Chuck and Melody, his greatest dream was realized several years back, and we couldn't be happier or more proud.

Demure Statue This demure statue of a sweet Chinese girl in traditions garb is tucked away in a little grove just south of the waterfall in a quiet little spot, and it's easy to miss her if you're not looking carefully. But, she is lovely and sweet, and worth taking a moment to contemplate your thoughts with her quiet composure for company.

Azaleas in Full Bloom Our Azaleas are in full bloom now and can be found in many locations throughout the garden! This particular specimen is located just outside the original front door, but there is no view without color right now due to their strategic placement throughout the entire grounds. These would make a lovely backdrop for spring photography, so call us at 817-612-1700 to schedule your appointment today!

Our staff and the Parker County Master Gardeners did a wonderful clean out of the Courtyard just a few days ago, planting Lilies and Begonias and all sorts of annual spring color. This month should prove to be very bright with blooms as these new plantings get acclimated and established, so make it a point to come see their handiwork! Peonies! We are so blessed to have a large swath of Peony blooms this year, and they are large and heavily scented! For a chance to view these, and better yet, SMELL these, wander around the Triple Tier Fountain, and you'll find them perched overlooking the Dragon Fountain in the Sunken Garden. There's a reason it's become a tradition for many to gift their mothers and grandmothers with Peonies for Mother's Day. They just always seem to bloom on time for the celebration, faithfully, year after year. Speaking of Mother's Day, the Chandor Gardens Foundation will be hosting a sweet event entitled "Let Them Eat Cake!" For more information on that, please visit the Foundation's Facebook page or https://www.chandorgardensfoundation.org/

Feeling blue? So is this Iris, but in the best way possible! This unusual blue-hued Iris can be found just in front of the South Porch and is definitely worth a second glance. Blue flowers are one of the more rare colors that bloom in nature due to the way plants generally process and reflect different spectrums of light, so when you see a true blue flower, know that you're looking at something special.
